The residence authorization for job search is a very popular permit among those foreigners who have completed higher education in Spain. Recently its duration has been increased from one year to two and this gives its holders enough time to settle in Spain and either find a job offer or design their own business project. In this article we would like to inform you of the 5 keys to successfully apply for this interesting residence permit.

Key 1: You must finish an EQF level 6 training at least

It is important to note that not just any certificate of completion of studies is accepted for the purpose of applying for residency for job search. According to the Instructions of the Directorate General of Migration 1/2018 it must be “studies in a higher education institution authorized in Spain and which has reached at least Level 6 according to the European Qualifications Framework”.

Key 2: To be covered by medical insurance.

It is mandatory to subscribe to a “medical insurance”, meaning a public insurance or a private health insurance arranged with an insurance company authorized to operate in Spain, which must cover all the risks normally covered for nationals and which must be maintained during the entire term of the authorization.

Key 3: The accreditation of economic means.

In the case of the residence authorization for the search for employment, it is sufficient the submission of a responsible declaration in which the means with which the sufficiency of resources must be accredited must be detailed.

Key 4: When can you apply for it?

This permit may be requested within 60 calendar days prior to the expiration date of the validity of the authorization of stay for studies or during the 90 calendar days after that date.

Key 5: It is necessary to be holder of a previous authorization of stay for studies.

It should be noted that in order to apply for this permit it is strictly necessary to hold a previous authorization to stay for study purposes.
