The census registration (empadronamiento) is certainly a formality of great importance in the field of Immigration. There are several procedures that require the provision of the so-called “certificado de empadronamiento” (census registration certificate) for proper processing. Our clients often ask us if this document is required to successfully apply for the Digital Nomad Visa.
The purpose of this article is to dispel the doubts surrounding this issue and to facilitate our clients the application process for this popular permit.
2. Is the Empadronamiento required to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa?
In order to give a precise answer to this question, it is necessary to have a clear understanding of the application process for the Digital Nomad Visa. First, it is necessary to address the corresponding application to the UGE, if the permit is requested from Spain or to the Spanish Consulate territorially competent, in case of requesting it from the country of residence and, subsequently, once the favorable resolution is obtained, it will be necessary to apply for the residence card (TIE).
Well, for the first part, that is to say the request of the authorization before the competent organ, it is not necessary to provide the Certificate of Empadronamiento. However, once a favorable resolution has been obtained, it will be necessary to carry out the empadronamiento in order to apply for the residence card (TIE).
In addition, according to the Spanish legal system, all Spaniards or foreigners living in Spanish territory must be registered in the municipality in which they habitually reside.
